Welcome to Systems Society of India
The Systems Society of India, Thiruvananthapuram Chapter, is a subsidiary of the Systems Society of India (SSI), which was formally registered in 1982 as a professional body comprising distinguished Engineers and Scientists from the disciplines of Engineering, Science, Social Studies, and Arts. The society promotes the advancement of theory, research, application, and practice by adopting a holistic systems approach aimed at the progress of humankind.
Based on Aristotle's holistic notion that "a whole is more than the sum of its integral parts," systems thinking has its foundation in the works of Ludwig von Bertalanffy, an Austrian biologist and the founder of General Systems Theory (GST). Introduced at the University of Chicago in 1937, GST is an interdisciplinary field of study that develops a framework for explaining and understanding complex systems and their behavior, emphasizing the importance of viewing systems as a whole rather than as isolated parts. Bertalanffy’s work particularly emphasized interconnectedness, holism, and emergent properties.
The SSI, Thiruvananthapuram Chapter, continues to carry forward this vision by advancing the study of Systems Science, Systems Engineering, and related fields. It actively promotes their applications in areas relevant to the needs of the country and disseminates knowledge pertaining to both the theory and practical applications of Systems Science and Engineering.
